Practical strategies for teaching students with dyslexia/specific LD

July 2, 2019 @ 1:15 pm 3:45 pm

This session aims to develop your ability to teach students with dyslexia/specific learning difficulties. You will have an opportunity to explore common features of dyslexia/SpLD and how they affect the learning process. You will also evaluate practical strategies that may help your students in their learning, and work on a sample of your own teaching materials using these strategies. The session will outline our obligations to students with disabilities in accordance with the Equality Act 2010 and summarise how the support referral process works at the City Lit.

By the end of the session, you should be able to:

– 1. Recognise your duties to students with disabilities under the Equality Act 2010.

– 2. Identify characteristic features associated with dyslexia/SpLD.

– 3. Describe how characteristic features associated with dyslexia/SpLD affect students’ learning.

– 4. List a range of strategies to promote learning and remove barriers to learning for students with dyslexia/SpLD.

If you need to withdraw your registration, please do so at least 3 days before the training so that we can offer your place to someone else. Otherwise, you are preventing another tutor’s opportunity to attend.
